Meera Gangadharan’s love of teaching is matched only by her list of many accomplishments. She completed her pediatric residency from Case Western Reserve University, during which she received the Senior Resident Teaching Award. Subsequently, she received her anesthesia training at the University of Texas Health and Science Center in San Antonio and a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Since working with the University of Texas Medical Branch at Driscoll Children’s Hospital, she has not only been dedicated to delivering high-quality care, but has served as a member of the hospital’s Process Improvement Committee, Ethics Committee, Grand Rounds Organizing Committee, CME Committee, and Sedation Committee, of which she is currently Chairperson. She is also on the Executive Board of the Nueces County Medical Society and an Alternate Delegate for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists. In 2014, she received a Certificate in Business Administration from the ASA.
Academically, Dr. Gangadharan is a published author in Anesthesia Analgesia, Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, and CCAS E-News, writing on topics ranging from pediatric pulmonary hypertension to malignant hyperthermia to sacrococcygeal teratoma. She has also been an invited international guest speaker on topics including anesthetic neurotoxicity, von Willebrand disease, pediatric airway management, lipid emulsion therapy, craniosynostosis, and hemoglobin-derived oxygen carriers.
Dr. Gangadharan’s passion, however, is in teaching. Her simple credo for the Boards expresses her emphasis on quality anesthesia care: “The application of knowledge, use of sound judgment, and emphasis on professionalism are vital to the making of a good anesthesiologist. Study to become an excellent Consultant, and you will automatically pass the Boards.” Dr. Gangadharan looks forward to working with the next generation of ABA candidates to help them achieve and refine these essential goals, which define our profession.
